Do you have a favorite color? Is there a particular color that you find yourself drawn to? Especially if you are feeling sad or happy or anxious. That is color therapy at work. Everything has a vibrational energy, including colors. There is a reason why you feel calm at the beach. The vibrational energy of the blue sky and water has a calming effect on us. Color therapy is another way that you can enrich the lives of your cat and also help them work through any issues that they might be dealing with.
Color Therapy Basics
Although, I understand the concept of color therapy and have used it for myself as well as my cats, I recently took a Color Therapy for Cats Workshop with Julia-Anne Thorne from Naturally Cats. I wanted to have another way to support my cats and help them live their best possible cat lives. The workshop was amazing and gave me a lot of “a-ha” moments. I knew certain colors were associated with the 7 chakras, the key energy centers of the body. When a chakra is underactive, overactive or blocked, then the energy cannot flow correctly causing physical, mental and emotional issues. What I didn’t realize was something as simple as using the color red, which is the color associated to the root chakra, can help my cat feel safe and secure. Amazing!
I have used been incorporating color therapy with my cat’s herb gardens, also from Naturally Cats. After this workshop, I realized that I could add some simple color therapy in other areas of our home. A simple piece of colored fabric placed on the floor can allow your cat to interact if they need to. You can also use paper, paint color cards, rugs, blankets, collars or clothing. Anything that you can think of will work. The main thing to remember is to not force it on your cat. Don’t put the red blanket in their bed. If they do not need that color, then you have forced them out of their favorite sleeping spot. Keep in mind that your cat is very intelligent, and they have the innate ability to choose what they need when they need it.
Add Some Color to Your Cat’s Life
If color therapy has sparked an interest in you, I highly suggest doing some more research on it. It is such a simple and fascinating way to enrich and enhance your cat’s life. You will start to see the connection in your own life as well. Why certain colors “speak” to you more than others. This same premise works with your cats as well. I hope this article has helped you to bring some color into your cat’s life.
