Naturally Cats’ Herb Gardens

I discovered Julie-Anne Thorn, from Naturally Cats, and her herb gardens for cats last October through The-Two-Crazy-Cat-Ladies. This instantly intrigued me. As someone who gravitates towards natural, holistic and herbal remedies for myself, it made perfect sense to be able to do the same for my cats. This was very exciting for me, and I added it to my lists of things to try.

As with anything that I consider introducing to my cats and because of my nature, I read up on Naturally Cats and the herb gardens. I followed her on Facebook. Watched her videos. Attended lives that she was speaking. Even, attended her Holistic Cat Conference this past February. Her website is one of the sites that I talk about in my 4 Best Holistic Cat Care Websites. I, also, did a lot of outside research on the effects and benefits of herbs for cats. It all spoke to me that this was something that I needed to try for my cats. 6 months later, I purchased my 1st herb garden.

My 1st Naturally Cats Herb Garden

I am not sure why it took me 6 months to finally purchase the cats their 1st herb garden. I was completely sold after attending the Naturally Cats Holisitc Cat Care Conference in February. Life got in the way. I remember thinking frequently that I needed to order a garden, then would get sidetracked with the numerous other things that I needed to do.

However, I am a true believe that everything happens for a reason. For the past few of months, we have been dealing with some cat drama in our house. A few of the cats have been having some issues cohabitating. We have had some hissing, growling, fighting, and inappropriate spraying. All very stressful for all of us, cats and humans. The final straw was noticing how it was all affecting Emmet and his eating and diet. Or should I say the lack of. And that was when I purchased the 1st herb garden.

Which Garden to Choose?

There are different herbs garden for different issues. Just as with humans, different herbs have different effects and benefits for cats. Because I was trying this out for the first time with my cats and really wasn’t sure if it would work with them, I purchased the General Herb Garden, which comes with 6 herbs: Calendula, Catnip, Chamomile, Lavender, Rosebuds & Valerian. All of those are good for relaxation, calming and self-confidence. Exactly what was needed in this house right now.

Naturally Cats also has gardens to help with aggression, anxiety, digestions and other issues. Her website is full of useful information on how to choose your garden. She also has a book, The Aromatic Cat, that is a great resource. You can contact Julie-Anne is your need assistance or have questions about what herbs would work best for your cat.

The Results Are In…

The garden came in last Saturday. After reading the simple directions on how to set up your herb garden, I got to work doing just that. I set up 3 gardens in 3 different areas of the house. I made sure the gardens were not in confined areas so the cats could come and go easily. The cats were instantly interested and supervised the setup of each garden.

Some went right to a certain herb and laid near or rolled around in it. Others were a little slower in their approach and usage. That is the amazing thing about these herb gardens and self-selection, your cat will gravitate and choose what herb they need at that moment. I am in awe, still, when I see one of my cats walk up to the garden and go to the herb that gives them what they need at that moment. Calendula, Valerian and Chamomile are the most popular for my cats right now.

It has only been a week and they are on their 2nd Herb Garden, but the results have been impressive already. Things are starting to calm down around here. Hissing and growling has decreased. Fighting has dropped. The results have been impressive. So much so, that I have purchased the Su’purr’b Selection Box which has 20 different herbs. I foresee lots of herb gardens around my house in the future. I highly suggest checking out Naturally Cats’ Julie-Anne and her herb gardens. You will be amazed.
