A month ago, after having cats for almost as long as I have been alive, I was faced with my first cat with a urinary blockage. Pyewacket is one of the downstairs Kracken Kitties. My intuition kicked in one morning as I was feeding them, and I knew he needed to come upstairs for monitoring. Thankfully, I have been fine tuning my “kitty senses” and noticed he was struggling to urinate. And because, I know how serious a blockage can be and unfortunately, I did not know how long he had been dealing with this, off to the emergency vet we went. Sure, enough, he had a blockage. That was a month ago, and Pyewacket had a follow-up this past Thursday, so it’s time for a Pyewacket Urinary Update.
A Bump in the Road
After 2 nights at the emergency vet and 1 night at our regular vet, Pyewacket came home doing and feeling a lot better. He was on medication for a few days and started on a Rx food (that he quickly refused and opted for a much better raw food). I set him up in my husband’s office/music room with an adjoining bathroom. He had the hook-up and was living his best life. I went down every evening for a few hours, as did my husband. A perfect arrangement in Pyewacket’s eyes. All was good for a few days.
Then, I noticed that he started frequenting the litter boxes numerous times a day. And although he was urinating, it was also very small amounts. I immediately called the vet the next day to see if we could do a drop-off appointment. I was concerned that he had another blockage. Luckily, it was not another blockage, just a “raging bladder infection”, which is common after having a catheter for a few days. So, back on medication he went. A slight bump in the road of recovery.
A Holistic Approach
Being who I am, of course I didn’t just go with a traditional approach to healing Pyewacket and his urinary issues. Not only did he get his daily medications, Pyewacket also started getting daily supplements. He started receiving Oxycat, Catalyst, and B12 from The-Two-Crazy-Cat-Ladies. He also got their Urinary Cat Plus supplement for about a week. And I didn’t stop there.
Knowing what I know about Cat Chakras, I know that urinary issues are associated with the Sacral Chakra. So, I offered Pyewacket herbs, crystals, and hydrosols to help balance his Sacral Chakra. He had a small herb garden with some Chamomile and Calendula. I added some Nettle, because my intuition told me to. I offered him Carnelian, Citrine, Tiger’s Eye and Quartz, along with Golden Healer Quartz. He got a bowl of Frankincense hydrosol to help with inflammation. Pyewacket loved all of it! He would sleep on the herbs, interact with the crystals and drank from the hydrosols. Plus, he was receiving daily energy work and healing from me. And it all worked! Pyewacket received a clean bill of health at his follow-up!!
Continuing the Healing
Because I know that once a cat has an urinary issue, it is very likely that they could have another one in the future. This is definitely something that we don’t want. So, we will continue to monitor Pyewacket to ensure that he is not showing any concerning signs. I recently purchased PEA from The-Two-Crazy-Cat-Ladies that I will be adding to his daily supplements. He will continue to reside in his own room until I am able to slowly introduce him to the Resident Cats. Stress is a big contributing factor to urinary issues. And, of course, he will continue to receive all of my woo woo and energy work. Whatever it takes to keep Pyewacket happy and healthy.
If we’re going to have animals around, we all have to be concerned about them and take care of them. –
