Emmet Continues to Be an Enigma

Emmet is a handsome enigma.

Emmet has been having a pretty rough past few months. This past October, a mass was felt in his GI tract, possibly cancer. An ultrasound confirmed the mass. A few weeks later, Emmet underwent surgery to get a biopsy and hopefully remove the mass. Unfortunately, the mass was unable to be removed. We just knew it was cancer. Biopsy results showed it was not cancer. However, we were baffled at what was causing this mass. We started a protocol of daily steroids in an effort to shrink the mass. This past Thursday, Emmet had his 2nd follow-up appointment, and his vet could not feel the mass anymore at all. Emmet continues to be an enigma.

A Holistic Approach

Emmet has been on steroids for almost half of his life. He will be 5 this April. This does not make me happy and long-term steroid use is dangerous for vital organs. While we were working with Emmet’s mass, his vet noticed that he has a slight heart murmur. This is not a concern at this point, but we have to be cautious with steroids. Because I believe in a holistic approach to the care of my cats, I knew that Emmet needed supplements and a healthy diet to help him overcome this new health challenge.

Emmet had been on a species appropriate raw food diet until he started to get sick again. Then, he only wanted Fancy Feast and Stella & Chewy’s Freeze Dried. Not ideal, but he needed to eat. For whatever reason, on the day that Emmet had his staples removed, he went right back to eating a completely raw diet. As if he never stopped. The absolute joy that I felt. In addition to his raw diet, Emmet has been getting daily supplements. Oxycat and B12 from The-Two-Crazy-Cat-Ladies have been the main ones, with Catalyst and Pet Wellbeing’s Mushroom Therapy added in occasionally.

A Testament

Emmet is a living testament to what can happen when you provide the body with what it needs to be healthy. I have done numerous articles on why you should feed your cat a species appropriate raw food diet and why you should include supplements. Emmet is the reason why I am such an advocate for the importance of what you feed your cat. I absolutely believe that Emmet was able to work through this latest health challenge because of his healthy diet. His amazing vet agrees with me. We have both seen Emmet’s amazing transformation with the help of a minimal dose of steroids along with a healthy diet and supplements. Try including some raw and supplements into your cat’s diet and watch how they start to transform into a happier and healthier cat.
